      1. You want to find your horoscope for the week using the MSN website as a starting point.
      1. Go to www.msn.co.uk/horoscopes
      2. Click on the Horoscopes tab
      3. Scroll down the page to the sections entitled “Daily Horoscopes” and select your own birth sign from the drop down list
      4. Copy the main text from this horoscope and paste it into a Word document
      5. Copy the URL of this page and paste it into the same document

     

    After reading your horoscope, go to the MSN homepage

     

    1. You want to find out the weather for your region as you are planning a day out
      1. On the MSN website, along the top, click on the Weather link
      2. The Weather page will appear.  Type your postcode or town name in the find weather for box at the top of the page
      3. The weather for your town will appear
      4. Scroll down to see the weather for the next 5 days
      5. Click on the link to see the 10 day forecast
      6. Refresh this page

     

    1. You want to check the TV listings for tonight’s television

     

      1. Open a new window (Page, New Window/CTRL+N)
      2. Click in the address bar at the top of the screen
      3. Type the address www.bbc.co.uk
      4. On the bbc website, click on the TV tab along the top of the screen
      5. Click on the BBC one schedule
      6. Click on “Full TV listings”
      7. The listings will appear on the screen
      8. Select one of the programmes to get a detailed description
      9. Create a folder in your favourites called TV guides
      10. Add the bbc one TV page to this folder
      11. Click on the Radio tab along the top
      12. Stop the page from loading

    You want to plan a journey in Northern Ireland

        • In the address bar type www.translink.co.uk
        • In the journey planner table type Lisburn to Belfast
        • Click on the Search button
        • In the page that appears change the time of your journey and decide if you want to go by train or bus then click Update
        • A list of the services will appear
        • Refresh this webpage

        Finding a recipe

        Type in the address www.bbc.co.uk/food

        Click in the Quick Recipe search area and type an ingredient (eg. Chicken)

        Click on Search

        Scroll down the page to find the recipe you want

        Click on the name of the recipe and the whole thing will come up on the page

        Click on the Print Friendly Version

        Hold down the Alt key until the menus appear along the top of the screen

        Go to File, Page Set up

        Change the orientation to Landscape

        Change the margins to 20 all round

        As a header type in the name of the recipe

        Put your name as a footer

        Print out a copy of the recipe

        Close the recipe window and then use the back button to return to the national lottery page

         

        Tourist information in Northern Ireland

        Go to the google webpage

        Type in the text Northern Ireland Tourist information

        Select www.discovernorthernireland.com from the list of search results

        Click on the Places to stay tab along the top of the page

        Select Belfast from the Town/City option and check the Hotel option

        Scroll down the page and click on the search accommodation option

        Scroll down and look at the hotels available.  Click on one to bring up a more detailed description.

        Create a folder in your Favourites

        Call it Tourist Information

        Save 2 different hotel pages to this folder

        At the top of the page click on the Things to do tab

        Select Castles and Monuments

        On the map click on any that are around the Belfast area

        Add one of them to your folder in Favourites

        Save an image from any page on this site to My Pictures

        Copy a paragraph of text and paste it into a Word Document

         

        Looking up cinema times and local information

        Go to www.lisburn.com

        In the Entertainment section click on Cinemas

        Click on the Cinema Lisburn Omniplex link

        All the cinema times and films for the week are displayed

        Click on the X in the top right hand corner of the screen to close this window

        Close this window and return to the Lisburn.com homepage

        Click on the Photographs link

        Select one of the photographs to view it full size

        Right click on the mouse over the picture and select Save picture as option

        Save the picture as Lisburn Picture to My Pictures.

        Theatres in Belfast

        There are 3 main theatres in Belfast, the opera house, lyric and Waterfront.  Below are the website addresses for all three

        Copy text from this section and paste it into a Word document.  Save the document as Waterfront to My Documents

        3.Go the The Lyric’s homepage

        Look up the telephone number for the theatre

        Take a look at what’s on in the theatre

        Using Google, go to the Belfast Telegraph home page

        Read today’s headlines

        Click on one of the headlines to read the full article

        Use the back button to go back to the main page

        Save this page as a text document to your ecdl folder

        Click on the Loadsajobs link to look at current jobs in education

         

        Yellow Pages

        This is available online as well as in the phone book.  Sometimes it is better to use it online because it can give you email and website information not available in the book.

        Go to www.yell.com

        In the search for box type Taxis

        In the Location box type Belfast

        Click on Search

        The results of your search are displayed on the page.  Sometimes you have to scroll down the page to see them all, and if there is more than one page it will say so at the bottom of the page.

        Most results have maps with them, just click on the word Map below the address and phone number.
